“Creating Peace in the Neighborhood”

A 3-Year National Campaign

The Association of Midnight Basketball (AMB) is developing “positive and productive character among youth and young adults, ages 13-24, through violence prevention, education and youth stability programs and activities”.

But, over the next three years, we are addressing rising crime in neighborhoods across the nation through a three-year campaign, “Creating Peace in the Neighborhood”. It will encompass our regular work, but also include marches for peace, talk-outs, the push for legislation to ensure lasting community peace. We are soliciting more than 66,000 young men and women in major cities across the nation to help lead this effort.

Over the last three years, the national murder rate dramatically rose. In September 2021, the FBI reported that murder rose by 30% from 2019 to 2020! Now, every day, national news headlines are plagued with reports of shootings and murders …May 30th, 2021, two persons were murdered at a Miami concert; two days later two men were killed at a Miami banquet. September 17th, 2021, weekend nine people were killed in Baltimore!

Nine people were murdered in Chicago the weekend of September 24th, 2021. It’s staggering! To address the murder rate, the US Department of Justice, introduced a new “strike force” aimed at shutting down the pipeline to illegally trafficked guns into the nation’s largest cities. More is needed!

Will you join us in this work? Will you consider a contribution to AMB?
